Huye district is located in the southern province of Rwanda and is popularly known for its vibrant capital city Butare – which was the formal colonial capital of Rwanda.
Huye is also well known for being the intellectual and cultural Centre of the country. The town hosts the largest University of Rwanda, the National University of Rwanda which is home to the National Ethnographic Museum, one of Africa’s finest collections of pre and post-colonial ethnographic, artistic, and archaeological displays. The National Ethnographic Museum is also an excellent source of information on the cultural history of Rwanda.
